2020 was an extraordinary year in human history. The pandemic struck suddenly, sweeping across the globe, plunging humanity into a state of panic, despair, and helplessness.
From August 10th to November 10th of that year, I also held a solo exhibition titled “Yun Yun” at the Bank Art Center in Guangzhou. In Chinese, the phrase “Yun Yun Zhong Sheng” refers to ordinary people, the weak, the lower classes, a large number of people who are humble in status and lack social care. The theme of the “Yun Yun” exhibition was precisely a call for society to pay more attention to the “Yun Yun Zhong Sheng.”
Later, I held a solo exhibition titled “2020” in Shanghai. The exhibition title “2020” subtly echoed the painful year 2020. At the same time, I used 2020 portrait paintings as the exhibition theme, serving as a warning about this extraordinary year 2020. I expressed heartfelt and questioning voices about the emergence and spread of the pandemic, reminding people to remember this painful moment, reflect on 2020, fight against the pandemic, turn sadness into memory, and prevent tragedies from repeating. The exhibition was a huge sensation, attracting the attention of many citizens. The original exhibition period, from December 18, 2020, to January 17, 2021, was extended to February 28, 2021, at the request of the public, to allow more citizens to view it.
