About
My Artistic Journey
I have been painting for 20 years. I never imitate others when I paint. I just want to express my inner thoughts and tension in the form of paintings, that is, to materialize my inner feeling into paintings. Some people use language, some use words, some use music, and some use behavior to express their thoughts. I use my method – painting to express my inner world.
Early Life and Challenges
As a child, I was forced to attend a study session at my father’s workplace, where I was pressured to denounce his “counter-revolutionary” actions. During that time, I was forbidden from attending school and instead forced to participate in the “Stop Classes and Make Revolution” movement.
Teenage Years in the Countryside
When I was a teenager, I went to the mountains and countryside 200 kilometers away from home and farmed with farmers. I worked there for three years and learned all kinds of farm work and became a farmer.
Academic Achievements
Subsequently, China reinstated the nationwide standardized college entrance examination, which had been suspended for a decade. Over thirty million young people across the nation met the eligibility requirements, yet only two hundred and seventy thousand were admitted to universities. I was among them, becoming a member of the 77 college entrance class.
Professional Career
After graduating from university, I worked at a bank for twenty years, serving as the head of the Guangzhou branch and the Guangdong branch. During this time, I interacted with government officials at all levels, prominent businessmen, and company CEOs. I became accustomed to witnessing both the kindness and the baseness of human nature, navigating ever-changing situations, accepting the law of the jungle, and managing relationships with both the powerful and the hypocritical.
Work Experience
I have also served as the president of a conglomerate listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange for more than three years. I have experienced hardships in the business world and deeply understand the reality and cruelty of market competition.
Reflections on Life
The ups and downs of life, the tides and waves of social development, the sinister of various characters, the honor and disgrace of good souls, the hardships of ordinary and weak people, and the endless strange events, are like rays of light and patches of darkness, entered into my soul and followed the blood flowing throughout my body. I wanted to scream but was powerless. I wanted to stand but was helpless. I wanted to sleep but was restless. I did not want to eat but couldn’t. So, I only paint, I can only paint and I just want to paint.
Family and Influence
Gratefully my father and mother are both upright and well-educated people. In his early years, my father graduated from the Royal Government Normal School of Hong Kong. It is the first official institution in Hong Kong, with a complete British curriculum as well as authentic Chinese education. He became the principal of many schools in Hong Kong in the 1930s. I grew up in the arms of my parents and under their influence of culture. I understand right and wrong, truth and falsehood, good and evil, and justice and injustice.
My Philosophy
Through decades of ups and downs and half a century of life, I have experienced the full spectrum of human emotions, from joy to sorrow. I often reflect on myself and ponder others. I hold fast to my values. I have no choice but to be myself. I express my heart through my paintings.
